## Intermediate Analysis

Catalog Description:
Rigorous study of limits, continuity, and differentiability of functions of 1 real variable.
Desired Learning Outcomes:
1. Students will be able to rigorously prove results in differential Calculus.
2. Students will be able to express mathematical concepts clearly in writing.

Homework:
Several homework problems will be assigned from each section in the book. These will not be collected or graded, but you may be called upon in class to present your solution or progress toward a solution.
Approximately twice per week, a problem will be assigned for which a written solution is required. These problems require the use of the Good Problems method for mathematical writing. Thus they will be graded partly on content and partly on presentation.
Tests:
There will be two mid-term tests, in class. The first covers chapters 1 and 2 and the second covers chapter 3.
Final Exam:
The final exam is on Monday, June 7, at 10:10am in our regular classroom. The exam is cummulative, but with greater emphasis on chapter 4.
The graded homwork is worth 45%, each test is worth 15%, and the final is worth 25%. An average of 90% guarantees you at least an A-, 80% a B-, 70% a C-, and 60% a D-.
Missed or Late work:
Late homeworks are penalized 5% for each 24 hour period or part thereof, excluding weekends and holidays. You can resubmit homeworks to improve your score, but the late penalty will apply.
Attendance:
Attendance is crucial for your learning of this material, but is not counted in your grade. It is your responsibility to find out any announcements made in class.
You are strongly encouraged to work together on the ungraded homework. You can work together on the graded homework, but you must acknowledge in writing what help you received and from whom. The tests and final exam must be your own work, and without the aid of notes, etc. Dishonesty will result in a zero on that work, and possible failure in the class and a report to the university judiciaries.
